Legacy of Kindness, Kindness, Izzeldin Abuelaish, positive legacy

Episode 27: Wringing Positivity from Anger to Leave a Legacy of Kindness

In Part Two of my conversation with Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, “Wringing Positivity From Anger to Leave a Legacy of Kindness”, you will hear a theme that resonates in many of my interviewees. They are hurting and from their pain a path onward is created. It is their path onward, their resilience that will leave a legacy of kindness for generations to come. Friends, as you listen, I ask you to contemplate what actions you take daily in order to leave a positive legacy for generations behind you.

Part Two with Izzeldin Abuelaish, MD, MPH

“Wringing Positivity From Anger to Leave a Legacy of Kindness”

I had the honor of meeting Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish in Toronto, Canada when he asked me to accept their 2019 Lifetime Achievement Luminary Award. Humbled to receive this award I was also encouraged by the amount of support Daughters for Life Foundation is garnering from educational institutions in Canada and the United States. Striving to advance, invest, and promote higher education for young women living in the Middle East, Dr. Abuelaish has taken the deep personal feelings of anguish and anger and created monumental beauty for the benefit of others.

His harrowing and inspiring book, I Shall Not Hate; A Gaza Doctor’s Journey on The Road to Peace and Human Dignity, has been made into a play allowing another form of art to help transcend hate and teach peace. Germany, Austria, Israel, the United States and now Belgium are hosting the play in their respective languages including Hebrew and Arabic. “Don’t underestimate yourself”, said Izzeldin’s eldest daughter, Bessan.  Bessan (age 21), Mayar (age 15), and Aya (age 13), lost their lives alongside their cousin, Noor (age 17) in January 2009, when an Israeli tank fired into the Abuelaish home.

In today’s podcast, “Wringing Positivity From Anger to Leave a Legacy of Kindness” you will hear a theme that resonates in many of my interviewees.  They are hurting and from their pain a path onward is created.  It is their path onward, their resilience that will leave a legacy of kindness for generations to come.  I am reminded of Susan Bro’s message in episode 24, “If You’re Not Outraged, You’re Not Paying Attention.”

We will have a wonderful opportunity to hear more from Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish when he is in conversation with the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Senior Pastor, Adam Hamilton and The Temple, Congregation B’Nai Jehudah Senior Rabbi, Art Nemitoff.  Hosted by the Faith Always Wins Foundation, you can register for this virtual experience and more created for SevenDays® Make a Ripple, Change the World.

Friends, as you listen, I ask you to contemplate what actions you take daily in order to leave a positive legacy for generations behind you.
