Real Grief Real Healing Podcast with Mindy Corporon, New normal, Hate crime, Reat,

Episode 5: New Normal

Episode 5, titled “New Normal” has been lived by me since April 13, 2014. The significant changes humanity is now facing were faced by me in 2014…MY WORLD came to a sudden halt when my son, Reat, and my father lost their lives to a hate crime.

As soon as I listened to the playback of my recording, I realized I had not mentioned the suffering of those with cancer, long-term illnesses such as Dementia and I didn’t have the language to mention what is spoken by each of us daily… COVID-19. Of course, all of these are life disruptions! Each of these and more require so much from us… including sleep, healthy eating, and permission to be pissed off, so angry we are HOT and just plain crying. Our new normal can also bring us joy, laughter, and a sense of peace we never knew existed in our souls.

Mindy Corporon, new normal, ReatOn March 11, 2020, I recorded Episodes 5 and 6 for my Real Grief - Real Healing podcast, and the United States suspended most travel to and from Europe. Do you remember what a HUGE deal this was? Spring Break plans were of utmost importance in our lives and we were weighing the news with, do we travel to ANY other country?

Just like you, our lives began to be upended. We canceled our son’s senior Spring Break trip to Belize with two of his friends and started practicing the new phenomenon called “social distancing”. Yet, in mid-March, ONLY 24 days ago, we were still engaged in typical social gatherings, at a distance.

Within a few days, as the world around us HALTED e v e r y t h i n g, except what was deemed “essential” you could hear the cry of many saying…” what the hell just happened?!”.

On March 27, I listened to the Brené Brown “Unlocking Us” podcast titled, Comparative Suffering.  Her research validates my feelings and the past 6 years of my life.

Thank you for reading and listening.  Friends, we are in a new normal. Stay healthy. Stay physically distanced, yet emotionally connected. God is with us – always. Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
