Episode 043 – Dr. Nicole D Price

“Seeking Restoration While Grieving”

Gertrude Price (aka Sister Price) “spent her life restoring the spirits of people, their own lives were important to her”, said Dr. Nicole D. Price, my guest for podcast episode 43, “Seeking Restoration While Grieving”.

Nicole is a second-time guest on Real Grief – Real Healing with Mindy Corporon. In episode 14, “Faith is Critical” we discussed the trauma of Nicole’s father passing away on her 10th birthday.

At age 38, on June 27, 2011, while Nicole was working in her “dream job” at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO, she received a hysterical phone call from her sister with the horrific message about her mother’s car wreck and death. A lie from her then-boyfriend protected Nicole from seeing her mother physically while a bystander sat with Gertrude Price during her final moments of life.

While this is a lot of trauma, Nicole speaks with gratitude for the 28 years she had her mother and their relationship from the time of her father’s early passing. Sister Price was a wonderful cook, her food was cherished and loved by many and her home was always filled with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She loved and knew God her entire life, making certain that Nicole and her siblings did, as well. Nicole explains that she didn’t just grow up in their church, “her parents had keys to the church.”

Restoration

Therefore, Nicole was surprised by her struggle to feel God in any way as she walked through the pain of grief after her mother’s death. Finding her own journey in grief and healing, Nicole shares the importance of finding the right therapist for her to be in conversation with. She also helps each of us with anecdotes on healing through Meditative Walks and Meditative Stitching, both of which Nicole used to overcome anxiety from her grief.

You will hear more insights from Nicole in our heartfelt conversation about the murder of her mother, how restoration was on her mind during the sentencing of the perpetrator, and the importance of seeking knowledge from each event in our lives to help us grow as human beings.

As always, thank you for joining us at Real Grief – Real Healing with Mindy Corporon.
